Bone Density Testing We now offer bone density tests in our office. A bone mineral density test measures the mineral density (such as calcium) in your bones using a special X-ray. From this information, an estimate of the strength of your bones can be made. This quick and painless evaluation, often done for the first time after menopause, can help prediect whether or not you are at risk for thinning of the bones and painful fractures in the future. More importantly, the test results can help your doctor decide if medication or lifestyle changes are needed now to rescue your “thinning” bones.
